Basel, March 12 (IANS): Indian shuttlers Parupalli Kashyap and Anand Pawar won their respective men’s singles openers at the $125,000 Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold here.
Third seed Kashyap took only 34 minutes to beat Dutch challenger Erik Meijs 21-17, 21-15 in their first encounter while Mumbai’s Pawar clinched the win by defeating Malaysia’s Kok Pong Loke 21-17, 21-10 in 26 minutes at the St. Jakobshalle on Tuesday.
However, rising shuttler Kidambi Srikanth suffered a disappointing loss at the hands of Swedish Henri Hurskainen. The World No. 42 Swede upset the fifth seeded Indian 19-21, 21-18, 21-17 in 53 minutes in their first ever match.
World No. 35 Pawar will face German Tobias Wadenka in the second round while World No. 18 Kashyap will take on another German Lukas Schmidt.
