Women’s Singles category:-

In the first match of the day on Court No. 1, World No. 13 Thai shuttler Porntip Buranaprasertsuk caused a huge upset as she thrashed the World No. 1 and reigning Olympic Champion Xuerui Li of China 21-15 21-19 in match which lasted for just 39 minutes.

Porntip, who ended India’s campaign in the tournament after defeating World No. 6 Saina Nehwal yesterday, was in supreme touch as she completely outclassed her higher-ranked opponent in all departments of the game. After defeating the Olympic Gold medallist she will now play the Olympic silver medallist Wang Yihan of China for a place in the finals.

In the second match in this category World No. 3 Chinese shuttler Wang Shixian defeated World No. 7 German shuttler Juliane Schenk in a completely one-sided match. Wang Shixian, who recently won the French Open Superseries title, defeated Juliane 21-16 21-16 in a 38 minute match.

In the fifth match on Court 2, World No. 5 Wang Yihan completely outclassed her Chinese counterpart as she defeated World No. 20 Li Han 21-13 21-10 in just 32 minutes.

In the last match in this category the World No. 17 Japanese shuttler Mintasu Mitani who is also referred to as a ‘giant-killer’, thrashed the World No. 8 Korean star Yeon Ju Bae 21-13 23-21 in a match which ended in 45 minutes.

She will now play Wang Shixian in the round of 4.

Men’s Singles category:-

In the first match in men’s singles category World No. 5 Indonesian shuttler Tommy Sugiarto defeated World No. 10 Chinese shuttler Zhengming Wang in a tough three game match.

Wang, who defeated Parupalli Kashyap in the opening round, gave a tough fight to his higher ranked opponent but lost points at crucial stages and hence lost the match 17-21 21-9 21-12.

In the last match of the afternoon session on Court 1, World No. 1 Malaysian badminton star Lee Chong Wei thrashed World No. 6 Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark 21-8 21-17 in a match which lasted for just 34 minutes.

In the third match of this category the World No. 7 Thai shuttler Boonsak Ponsana totally dominated his Danish opponent Hans Kristian Vittinghus and won the match quite comfortably, 21-17 21-16, in 41 minutes.

In the last match of the day Japanese badminton icon and World No. 4 Kenich Tago was up against the World No. 13 Soni Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia. Kuncoro, who outclassed Ajay Jayaram in the second round, overcame the strong Japanese force in a tight match which lasted for 53 minutes. This was the sixth time that these players had met and not even a single time has the Japanese player defeated this veteran Indonesian player. Kuncoro will now lock horns with the compatriot Tommy Sugiarto in the semifinal.

Women’s Doubles category:-

In the first match in women’s doubles category the World No. 2 Danish pair of Christinna Pedersen and Kamila Rytter Juhl defeated the World No. 53 Indonesian pair of Anggia Shitta Awanda and Della Haris 21-14 21-13 in 34 minutes.

The Indonesian pair of Awanda and Haris, who caused a huge upset in the opening round by defeating the World No. 7 Pair of Yan Poon and Ying Suet, were absolutely no match for the 2nd seeded pair of Pedersen and Juhl as they totally collapsed in both the games.

In the second match in the category the 5th seeded Chinese pair of Bao Yixin and Jinhua Tang defeated their counterparts and top seeded pair of Xiaoli Wang and Yu Yang 23-21 21-16 in a tough 47 minute match.

In the third match of the afternoon session on Court 2 the 3rd seeded Japanese pair of Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi defeated the 8th seeded Indonesian pair of Aprilsasi Variella and Vita Marissa in a completely one sided match.

The Japanese pair defeated the Indonesian pair 21-18 21-10 in a match which ended in just 35 minutes.

In the last match in Women’ s doubles category the unseeded Chinese pair of Ou Dongni and Tang Yuanting defeated the Japanese pair of Misato Aratama and Megumi Taruno 21-12 19-21 21-14.

The Chinese pair have a tough task in the next round as they will now take on the 2nd seeded and Olympic bronze medallist pair of Christinna Pedersen and Kamila Rytter Juhl of Denmark for a place in the final.

Men’s Doubles category:-

In first match in this category the World No. 1 Indonesian pair of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan defeated the World No. 11 Russian pair of Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov 21-15 14-21 22-20 in a very close match.

The Russian pair were very close to causing a huge upset but unfortunately they lost some crucial points which proved to be very vital at the end.

In the second match in this category the 4th seeded Korean pair of Sa Rang Kim and Ki Jung Kim defeated the 7th seeded Chinese pair of Wei Hong and Biao Chai 21-19 20-22 21-18 in a match which lasted for an hour and 9 minutes.

This was the last remaining Chinese pair in this category.

In the third match of evening session on Court 1 the unseeded Korean pair of Lee Yong Dae and Yeon Seong Yoo defeated the 5th seeded Taipei pair of Sheng Mu Lee and Chia Hsin Tsai 21-14 21-10. The Taipei pair were absolutely no match for the much experienced Korean pair and surrendered the match in just 39 minutes.

After entering the semifinal in mixed doubles category Chris Adcock entered the semifinal in men’s doubles category too. Adcock, along with his partner Andrew Hills, defeated the Indonesian pair of Gideon Markus and Markis Kido 21-19 21-15.

The English pair will now take on the World No. 1 pair of Nan Zhang and Yunlei Zhao for a place in the final.

Mixed Doubles category:-

In the first match in mixed doubles category the unseeded English pair of Chris Adcock and Gabrielle White defeated the 5th seeded Malaysian pair of Peng Soon Chan and Liu Ying Goh 21-18 21-12 in a completely one sided match.

In the second match of evening session on Court 1 the top seeded Chinese pair of Nan Zhang and Yunlei Zhao defeated the Japanese pair of Miyuki Maeda and Hirokatsu Hashimoto in a nail-biting thriller.

The Japanese pair, who were down 14-20 in the third game, saved six match points to make a remarkable comeback in the match but the World No. 1 pair came back strongly to win the next two points in quick succession.

They will now play the English pair of Chris Adcock and Gabrielle White for a place in the final.

In a parallel match on Court 2 another Chinese pair of Cheng Liu and Bao Yixin defeated the 6th seeded Indonesian pair of Markis Kido and Bernadeth 21-15 22-20 in just 30 minutes.

In the last match in this category the unseeded pair of Chun Hei lee and Hoi Wah Chau defeated the 7th seeded Indonesian pair of Jordan Praveen and Vita Marissa 21-12 18-21 21-17.

The semifinal matches will take place tomorrow.
