Paul George injures right leg during Team USA scrimmage

Paul George is tended to by support staff after he injured his ankle in the 4th quarter

Following their three day training camp at Las Vegas, the 19 player select roster for the USA National Basketball team were to go to head to head in a scrimmage where all players would be divided into Team Blue and Team White. The scrimmage which was going to be broadcasted on national television was a measuring stick in order to select only 12 of the 19 player squad for the FIBA World Cup to be held later this month in Spain.

Although the announcement of the 12 member squad has not been made yet, a single event during the game superseded everything else. With 9 minutes and 33 seconds left in the final period of the game, Paul George landed awkwardly against the base of the basket in an attempt to block a shot and twisted his right leg . He had to be carried off the court on a stretcher.

Head Coach of the USA National Basketball team, Mike Krzyzewski called off the game with an announcement to the crowd assembled in the arena. Despite the gruesome leg injury that George suffered, there was something for the crowd to cheer about including a major dunk by Derrick Rose.

Updates on Paul’s injury was shared by Pacers reporter Candace Buckner on twitter.

Other NBA players wished Paul a speedy recovery.

Paul is confident of making a grand comeback to the game.

Here are the highlights from the game, the injury and the aftermath:
