24th FIBA Asia Champions Cup: ONGC India lose third match in a row

ONGC India, the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) representative, lost their third match in a row on the fourth day of the ongoing 24th FIBA Asia Champions Cup at Amman, Jordan.

ONGC India lost to Al Rayyan (Qatar) 58 – 85 in the their last preliminary round and finished at the bottom of Group B.

Al Rayyan took the first quarter 24-7 while ONGC India took the second quarter 19 – 17. After the break, Al Rayyan took the third and last quarter 23-18 and 21-14 respectively to win the match.

Alvin Mofunanya netted 16 points for Al Rayyan while Amrit Pal Singh top scored with 16 points for ONGC India.

In another match of the day, Foolad Mahan of Iran defeated Al Hala of Bahrain 142 – 100 in the group A encounter.

The standing of the group B looks like below.

GROUP B

  1. Al Rayyan (QAT): 6 points (3 win /0 loss)
  2. Duhok (IRQ): 3 points (1 win /1 loss)
  3. BC Kapshagay (KAZ): 3 points (1 win /1 loss)
  4. ONGC (IND): 3 points (3 Loss)

India’s ONGC, Duhok of Iran, Al Rayyan of Qatar and Kazakhstan’s BC Kapshagay are in Group B while Group A consists of Al Hala (BRN), ASU (JOR), Foolad Mahan (IRI) and Al Jaish (SYR).

The FIBA Asia Champions Cup, previously known as the Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC) Champions Cup until 2002, is Asia’s premier club level basketball competition, involving the champion clubs of Asian countries.
