A good year for India and NBA

It was a good time to be an NBA fan in India this year. That said, we fans can now expect annual or more frequent doses of NBA. David Stern has truly commercialized the NBA on a global scale over the past decade, with NBA games being aired on TV on a weekly basis and almost regularly during the playoffs. And more recently, after Mr. Stern witnessed the successful proliferation of the NBA in China, he has decided to increase activity in India as well.

With increasing NBA presence in India at least sponsorship-wise, the sport of basketball has received a much-needed boost. Outside of city clubs and competitions, there isn’t really a basketball presence in India. With the Mahindra NBA Challenge, NBA players foray via NBA Cares, and the NBA Jam sessions happening, the NBA has truly arrived in India.

And now, with a few new additions of Indian writers on NBA.com/India, we Indian NBA fans are happier than ever. Cheers guys! Here’s to an even more active and growing Indian presence in the NBA.

From an NBA fan’s perspective, if the average Indian can muster up names of NBA players beyond MJ, Kobe, Shaq and LeBron, the NBA has achieved success! With the visits of Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol to name a few, the NBA has come closer to India.
