Ahmed Hafiz, President of of Maldives Basketball Association, was unanimously elected as the president of the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA), a FIBA ASIA sub zone and governing body of basketball in South Asia. Ahmed Hafiz will head SABA for the next four years.
The SABA Congress, chaired by outgoing president of SABA Ajith Kuruppu of Sri Lanka, was attended by FIBA Asia president Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al Thani and FIBA Asia Secretary General Hagop Khajirian during the eve of the 1st SABA 3×3 Men’s Basketball Championship at Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Ajay Sud, Secretary General of Basketball Federation of India, was elected a vice president, while Abhijit Sarker of Bangladesh Basketball Federation retained his post as the Secretary General. Tokey Dorji of Bhutan Basketball Federation was elected treasurer.
