Derrick Rose to miss rest of the season after knee surgery

Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose will miss the remainder of the 2013-14 season after he had a surgery to repair a medial meniscus tear in his right knee.

This will come as a huge blow to both Rose and the Bulls franchise as this is the second time in two years that he has suffered a season ending injury. He had torn his ACL in the other knee in the 2011-12 season, causing him to sit out the entire 2012-13 season to recover in time for this season. But this season too has come to a premature end after only 10 games.

“I felt for him. He is a great person, first and foremost,” Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said.

Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said, “Like Bulls fans everywhere, I was heartbroken when I heard of Derrick’s injury,”

“We are happy to know that, according to his doctors, his surgery was successful, and in time, Derrick is expected to make a full recovery.

Rose won the Most Valuable Player award in 2011 and since then he has hardly played 50 games.
