China beats Japan to lift the FIBA Asia under-18 women's title

China defeated Japan 60 – 53 to lift the title of the 22nd FIBA ASIA U18 Championship for women at Jordan. First half superb performance from the Chinese helped them earn their record-breaking 14th FIBA ASIA U18 Women’s title.

China took the first quarter 22 – 15 and also took the second quarter 17 – 7 to go to the halftime break with huge 17 points lead. After the break, Japan won the third and fourth quarter 19 – 11 and 12 10 respectively. But China holds on to their first half lead to win the title by 7 points.

Zhang Tingting netter 14 points and got 8 rebounds for China while Liu Shuai also netted 14 points for the winners. Nao Sogabe and Himawari Akaho netted 13 points each for Japan.

22nd FIBA ASIA U18 Championship for women was held in Jordan from 10 to 17 October 2014 and was played in two levels. Elite level one consisted of six teams – China, India, Japan, Korea, Thailand and Chinese Taipei while six other teams – Hong Kong, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia and Sri Lanka – played in Qualifying Level II.

The 22nd FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Women wass the qualifying event for the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship for Women to be played in Russia. The top three teams; China, Japan and Korea from the 22nd FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Women will represent FIBA Asia at the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship for Women.
