FIBA Asia Challenge: India beat Chinese Taipei to finish 7th

India defeated Chinese Taipei 80-68

India defeated Chinese Taipei 80-68 in the class 7-8 match at the FIBA Asia Challenge and secured 7th position in the tournament.Chinese Taipei took the lead in the first quarter but India crawled their way into the contest in the other quarters and then went on to win the match.

In the first quarter, Chinese Taipei took a lead over the Indians, as the score read 22-17. However, India rallied back in the 2nd quarter scoring 16-10 and took a lead of one point at the end of the 2nd quarter.

The Indian team did not look back as they won the 3rd quarter narrowly by 19-18 and went on to dominate the last quarter with a score of 28-18.Vishesh Bhriguvanshi, who provided four assists, was the leading scorer on either team with 22 points (5 rebounds) while Amritpal Singh scored 20 points (13 rebounds).

For the Chinese Taipei team, Y. Chiang amassed 16 points while Y. Chou had 3 assists to his credit.

India recorded a 46.77% two-pointer goal shooting accuracy as compared to the Chinese Taipei's inferior 43.48%. The Indians had a 21.43% three-pointer shooting accuracy whereas their opponents had 17.65%. India had earlier lost to the Chinese Taipei team in a Group A fixture but had their revenge in the 7th place deciding-match.

The Indian team had earlier defeated the higher ranked Philippines team in a group fixture. They have had a good performance in the FIBA Asian challenge as no one expected the underdogs to end on such a high note.This is India's fifth championship. In 2004 they were placed sixth while in 2008 they grabbed the 5th spot. In 2012 and 2014 the Men in Blue came 9th and 7th respectively.
