India just lost to Japan at the FIBA Asia Cup 2012, 72-90. Vishesh Bhriguvanshi had his second straight 20 point game, scoring 21 points. He said “The lack of experience has been a problem for us all in the all four games. I think we did play real hard in all our games. We are a young team and we have shown we can play good basketball.”

Rikin Pethani added 16 with 9 rebounds, Joginder Singh had 13 points but 7 turnovers to go with it. Amritpal Singh gobbled the boards, 20 rebounds with 13 points. We only got to the free throw line 9 times as a team. Japan had 19 free throw attempts. One of Japan’s players, Kanamaru, shot 7 of 9 from three point range. He finished with 26 points. Japan scored 19 unanswered points in the third quarter. That did us in. We hung close with them but had no answer for that third quarter onslaught.

We are out of the FIBA Asia Quarterfinals, our last game will be vs Macau on 20 September. That will be the match for 9-10th place.
