Nepal U-18 National Basketball Championship gets underway

The 7th edition of the Nepal National U-18 Basketball Championship tipped off at Kathmandu, Nepal with 28 teams (15 men’s teams & 13 women’s teams) participating for the prestigious National U-18 title. The championship will be played in league-cum-knockout format and will run through June 23, 2014.

Nepal Basketball Association will select the best players from the championship to participate in the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) U-18 qualifiers for the Asian Basketball Federation (FIBA ASIA) U-18 Basketball Championship.

On the opening day of the Championship, British College stunned defending champions Morgan International College 61 - 55 with 19 points from Rabi Chalise. Golden Gate defeated Gyan Niketan 56 - 29, while Greenfield saw off NASA 54 - 43. In the women' category, Saipal defeated Morgan 46 - 36 with Sweta Kharel scoring game-high 10 points for Saipal.

Team Prime are the defending champions in the women’s category.

The British College Kathmandu is the title sponsor of the 7th edition of the Nepal U-18 National Basketball Championship.
