Houston Rocket's Patrick Beverley out for season with wrist injury

Houston Rocket's Patrick Beverley out with injury

Patrick Beverley, the starting point guard of the Houston Rockets, will miss the rest of the season due to a wrist injury that he suffered on the 23rd of March during a game against the Indiana Pacers. League sources told Yahoo Sports that the recovery period of the recent surgery on the torn ligament of his left wrist is expected to be close to four months.

"We'll miss Pat in a lot of different ways," Rockets coach Kevin McHale told reporters. "He brings a lot of toughness. He's been really good for us slowing down guys the last couple of years. But we'll use all the resources we have and figure out what we need to do that night."

In 56 games this season, he has averaged 10.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists for the Rockets. His stats might not indicate a lot of contribution in today’s point guard dominated league, but its hard to forget that he is among the top 5 if not top 3 defensive guards in the NBA.

Although veteran Jason Terry and Pablo Prigioni, the team’s back up point guards, can shoot more efficiently from the field than Beverley, his pesty nature while guarding the opposing point guard is something that could cost Houston come Playoff time.

The team might be well positioned on the standings (3rd), just half a game behind second-seeded Memphis Grizzlies, but Beverley’s addition to their fairly long list of current injured players (Dwight Howard, Terrence Jones, Donatas Motiejunas) couldn’t help their cause.

Beverley is expected to be fit by July after the wrist spends 10 weeks wrapt in a cast, right about the same time he will become an unrestricted free agent.
