Sim Bhullar becomes first NBA player of Indian descent

Bhullar was discovered while playing for New Mexico State

NBA franchise Sacramento Kings have signed Sim Bhullar on a 10-day contract from D-league franchise Reno Bighorns, after cutting him from the main roster earlier in the season. The move would make the 7 feet 5 inches center, the first Indian-origin basketball player to ply his trade in the NBA.

Bhullar is currently averaging 10.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per game, which is one of the best in his league. However, the biggest worry is whether he can match up to the high intensity of the NBA, considering his size.

That being said, the 22-year-old has the highest field-goal percentage in the league, converting 73% of his shots.

Daniel O’Brien from the Bleacher Report said, “Bhullar is also a match-up nightmare on the defensive side, as he wins the positional battles and also swats shots as a weak-side helper. He’s currently averaging 3.6 blocks per game and 5.4 per 36 minutes.”

TNT basketball Analyst David Aldridge said, “He can score on the block. Has a nice feel for the game.

Made a big jump in being even more nasty and forceful with his play. I think he can help someone in the league. It was definitely better than it was before. He wasn’t a liability.”

Bhullar has to be on top of his game as he has just 10 days to impress the Kings’ coaching staff.
