The Indian team participating in the SABA U-18 Championship opened their campaign in impressive fashion. The young cagers got off to the best start possible as they handed out hammering to their neihbours Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

In their opener against their eastern neighbours Bangladesh, the Indians flew off the blocks scoring 57 points in the first half. Another 23 point thrid quarter from the young Indians put the final nail in the coffin for the Bangladeshis. However, they were not completely overwhelmed and scored 10 points in the last quarter in reply to India’s 13.

The final score of 90-31 however showed the convincing manner of India’s win. Vishal Kumar Gupta led all scorers for India in the game with 15 points.

Another dominant display

The Indian boys however, didn’t let their guards down in the second game thumping Sri Lanka in a grander fashion. A 73 point first half set the tone for the game as they went into the locker room at half time with a 52 point lead.

The Indian youth team however were not done as they took the third quarter by strom as well as the lead exploded to 71 points. When the final buzzer sounded to end the game, the score read 127-52.

Gineeb Benny was the start of the game this time around with 21 points while Baladhaneshwar chipped in with 18 points of his own for India.

India are set to play Nepal in their final round robin game and will look to end the first phase of the tounament in similar fashion. The win now takes them one step closer to FIBA Champioship as the this tournament serves as a qulaifier for the same.
