Hambantota Sports Club ‘Blues’ (HSC Blues) lifted the title of the 2014 Hebert Memorial Cup Basketball Tournament in Sri Lanka. The 3rd edition of the tournament was held on 25th, 26th & 27th of April 2014 with eight leading basketball teams from Sri Lanka competing for the prestigious title.

HSC Blues defeated Sri Lanka Air Force 57 – 51 in the final to lift the trophy. HSC Blues put on a controlled performance against the stronger Sri Lanka Air Force and were up 31 – 24 at half-time. HSC Blues held their nerve in the face of sustained pressure from Sri Lanka Air Force to win the final 57 – 51 to lift the trophy and defend the title.

Earlier in the semifinals, HSC Blues defeated Batticaloa Blues 73 - 44 and Sri Lanka Air Force defeated Sri Lanka Police 60 - 56 to enter the final of the tournament.

Roshan Randima of HSC Blues was declared the Most Valuable Player of the 2014 Hebert Memorial Cup Basketball Tournament while Ravi Dodangoda (SL Air Force) was judged Best Offensive Player and Vaheesan Shanmugalingman (HSC Blues) was judged Best Defensive Player of the tournament.

St. Michael’s College, Batticaloa Alumni Association of Colombo is the organizer of the annual Hebert Cup Basketball tournament, done to pay tribute to late Rev. Fr. Eugene John Hebert S.J. who contributed immensely towards the development of basketball at St. Michael’s College, Batticaloa.

The top eight teams of the island – HSC Blues, Sri Lanka Air Force, Batticaloa – Reds, Batticaloa – Blues, Police SC, Jaffna, Sri Lanka Army and Otters SC participated in the 2014 edition of the Hebert Memorial Cup Basketball Tournament.
