NBA Champion and Most Valuable Player Steph Curry won continues to win hearts, except now he’s doing it off the hardwood. Curry and the Warriors sent 10-year-old Taliq Davis a shout out on Twitter for his tenth birthday in July:
Following up the soul-stirring gesture, Curry, who is Taliq’s favourite player, crystallized his young fan’s wish of meeting and shooting hoops with him, earlier this week. And Curry’s compassion didn’t end there. The two-time NBA All-Star gifted Taliq a bag of autographed Warriors memorabilia:
In February, Taliq was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, a rare type of brain tumor that debilitates the body's nervous system’s ability to function. The agressive, inoperable brain tumour also magnifies his appetite, causing him to gain more than 20 kilograms since he was diagnosed.
Tanisha, Taliq’s mother, wanted to make sure that her son’s tenth birthday was a memorable one. So she posted on Facebook, just before his birthday in July, inviting cards and gifts. The response was overwhelming, with hundreds of cards pouring in from as far as Australia. Tanisha couldn’t hold back tears when upon finding the cards in the mailbox,Taliq said he didn’t have a headache. It was the first time in four months he had uttered those words.
PAUL PIERCE WILL RETIRE IF THE L.A. CLIPPERS WIN 2016 CHAMPIONSHIP
2008 NBA Champion Paul Pierce signed a three-year contract with the Los Angeles Clippers earlier this year. But it doesn’t seem like it’s his intention to play out the whole contract, from what “The Truth” himself says,”If we win a championship this year, I'll probably be done with basketball, just to be honest.”
Pierce, a ten-time NBA All-Star, will be entering his eighteenth NBA season this year. The three-year, $10 million contract he signed with the Clippers in July will see Pierce reunite with Doc Rivers, who coached him and the Boston Celtics to the 2008 NBA Championship.
At thirty-eight years of age, Pierce is well aware that his on-court role will be reduced and the team will look to draw on his wealth of experience and mentorship. He echoed the same in an interview,”I'm not the player I used to be," Pierce said. "I know my minutes are going to be down. So I think the idea is to be able to get through the season injury-free and hopefully just be fresh for the playoffs come April, May, possibly June. That's when I want to be at my best to help this team.”
