Stephen Curry becomes first ever unanimous winner of the NBA MVP award

Stephen Curry has been instrumental for the Warriors  success this season

Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors clinched the NBA’s Most Valuable Player(MVP) award for a second consecutive year on Tuesday. The 28-year-old guard became the first ever unanimous winner of the award, securing all of the 131 votes.

The 131 votes gave him a total of 1310 points – a whopping 676 points more than second-placed Kawhi Leonard of the San Antonio Spurs, who finished with 634 points. Curry’s rival in the race to the MVP-LeBron James- finished 3rd with 631 points.

Curry finished the regular season with 73 wins and played a key role in ensuring the defending champions went 24 games without losing before the Milwaukee Bucks inflicted a maiden defeat on them in December last year.

He joins Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and Steve Nash as the only guards to have won back-to-back MVP awards and is also the first ever player to have averaged a minimum of 30 points per game despite spending under 35 minutes per game on court.

In a sensational contest against the Portland Trailblazers on Monday night, Curry scored 40 points, despite not being in action for three weeks due to a sprained knee to help his side win in OverTime.
