The Punjab Steelers vs Mumbai Challengers match was one filled with numerous twists and turns as the two teams took to the court at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad. The Steelers made the first points and began dominating proceedings, forging 16-9 ahead.
But then Mumbai Challengers came roaring back, bagging 8 points in the last two minutes of Q1 while Punjab managed to score only 2. Fateh (12) from Punjab played very well in the quarter but was later substituted by Veer (8). The first quarter ended at 20-17 in Punjab’s favour.
The second quarter was quite a show by the Steelers as they managed to get 18 points, while the Challengers only got 8. Jattana (2) from Punjab scored a couple of 2 pointers and a 3 pointer and his special pampering shoots to the basket made it all look easy. The quarter ended with Punjab leading 38-25.
The Mumbai team made some progress in the third quarter by scoring 16 points, but just like the previous quarters, Punjab were even better, scoring two dozen points. This was the only mediocre quarter of the match where even though the score board soared, there were several fouls from both the teams’ players. The quarter ended at 41-62 with the Steelers still in the lead.
The final quarter was a bit of a game-changer; it saw some spectacular play that made the crowd go berserk. The quarter started with a couple of points from the Steelers, and the Mumbai Challengers were not so challenging in the first half of the quarter as they scored only two points in the first 5 minutes. Punjab locked the Mumbai team at 43 and made it to 69.
The Challengers seemed to be sleep-walking all over the court until their 3 pointer specialist made consecutive 3 pointers. With one and a half minute remaining for the match to end, the Mumbai team quickly ransacked 15 points to narrow the gap to 58-72.
Then more 3 three pointers from Mumbai in the last seconds pulled the score to 66-72. Eventually the clock came to the rescue of the Punjab Steelers, helping them register a close win.
