Andre Ward defeats Edwin Rodriguez in a comeback fight

After a prolonged fight rest of 14 months, Andre Ward made a comeback by defeating the opponent Edwin Rodriguez. It was a super middleweight boxing category match. Ward fetched a much awaited victory by the score of 118-106, 117-107, and 116-108.

Andre Ward appeared in his last fight against Chad Dawson in Spetember, 2012. Ward suffered a shoulder injury 14th months back and was treated for same in January 2013. This was the longest break in the American boxer’s career. This victory raises his record to 27-0.

Because of Rodriguez failing to make the desired weight for the category match, the World Boxing Association crown already belonged to Ward’s name. Rodriguez was even charged a fine of $200,000 for being unable to make the weight.

Rodriguez tried to make a lead in the first round, but strong jabs from Ward made him dominate by the end of first round. He led the board at the end of third round also.

In the fourth round, referee intervened because of the unfair and rough fight between the two. In the rest of the fight, Ward attacked the head and opposed the punches by falling back. The star from Oakland continued landing jabs on the opponent in the rest of the match and dominated in almost each of the rounds.

In the conclusive 10th and 11th rounds, Rodriguez was stunned by some left hooks from Ward and a head butt in the crucial end moments accidently marked a cut over his left eye. Ward claimed an easy point win in the last round to get hold of the title.
