South Africa were already in a state of shock following the deaths of national football team goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa and Olympic silver medalist Mbulaeni Mulaudzi were found dead earlier in the week. But things took another ugly turn when female boxer Phindile Mwelase passed away after being in coma for two weeks.

Mwelase went into coma after being knocked out in a bout on 10th October. It has been a difficult week for South African sport and Boxing South Africa expressed their sorrow. “We grieve at the passing of a wonderful and tremendous individual,” Boxing South Africa said.

A car crash took the life of Mbulaeni Mulaudzi on Friday and Meyiwa was shot dead on Sunday.
