10 cricketers who dared to sing

Every time our favourite cricketers step on the field, we wait with bated breaths to see their performances. These men, however, perform not just on the ground, but off it as well.

Many famous cricketers have dabbled in the profession of singing to woo their fans. They don’t just make the opposition dance to their tunes but the fans too. From peppy numbers to romantic songs and party beats, these top cricketers certainly know how to bring energy and fun wherever they go.

Here is a list of cricketers who dared to sing.

1. Dwayne Bravo

We all know that there can be no bigger entertainer than Dwayne Bravo and thanks to the IPL, he seems to have mastered singing not just in English but Hindi and Tamil too. Bravo recently launched his music album “Chalo Chalo” which caught the attention of the media. The launch was a grand success and Bravo stole the show with not just his performance but his grand attire as well. No wonder this Caribbean rockstar is loved by people all over the world.

2. AB de Villiers

Now, is there anything this man cannot do? We all know that he is an outstanding athlete, but it turns out that he is a brilliant musician as well. AB de Villiers has crooned a number of Hindi songs in the past and has a pop album called “Maak Jou Drome Waar”(”Make your dreams come true”) to his credit.

Music and cricket are the perfect match and AB seems to have pioneered both fields. The album also features his best friend and teammate Faf du Plessis and songwriter Ampie du Preez. Here’s a video of him singing “Yeh Dosti” from the Hindi movie “Sholay” during the IPL a couple of seasons ago.

3. MS Dhoni

Who knew Captain Cool could sing too? MS Dhoni is hailed as India’s most successful captain and won his country every possible trophy that one can imagine. No wonder, fans from all over the world were devastated when he retired from Test cricket late last year. Another trophy might on the cards soon with Dhoni gearing up to lead India in the World T20 next year on home soil. Here, then, is a present for all the diehard Dhoni fans. The man with the golden touch has a golden voice too!

4. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is considered to be the complete package as far as his cricket is considered. Ever since Kohli led India to victory in the U-19 World Cup in 2008, the nation has been going crazy over him. His never-say-die attitude, match-winning knocks and aggressive outlook have only added to his fan base. Well, he is a decent singer too. Here is a video of him singing ‘Paani Da’ from Vicky Donor. Isn’t a shy Kohli, who we get to see very little of on the field, worth the watch?

5. Brett Lee

Brett Lee was the epitome of fast bowling for most of the younger generation. His chivalry and sportiveness made him one of the most loved cricketers of our generation. Lee has always been an amazing musician and has performed at various gigs around the world. He is a part of the rock band “Six and Out”. We all know about his love for India and here is a video of his album “You Are The Only One For Me” with the widely acclaimed Asha Bhosle.

6. Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh has returned to the Indian Test side, thanks to an amazing IPL this year. While this true blue Punjabi has enthralled us with his Bhangra beats on many occasions, he is a soulful singer too. We all know how much Harbhajan values his family and he has given a perfect tribute to his mother through his musical album “Meri Maa”. 7. Shane Watson

Shane Watson showed us that he is an awesome guitarist and singer when he performed at the opening ceremony of IPL 2015. He seems to be an all-rounder not just on the field but off it too. He has always been a crowd puller and continues to be so with his mesmerising voice. He has collaborated with other cricketers like Brett Lee on many occasions and has belted out some beautiful music. Here is a video of him singing “Don’t Look Back In Anger”.

8. Virender Sehwag

The moment I say Virender Sehwag, all that we can remember are first ball fours and those wonderfully blazing centuries. However, it seems Sehwag has more to him than that. His love for music is well known among his fans. He has revealed in many press conferences that he keeps his mind open while batting and sings in his mind to keep himself calm. The usually shy Sehwag decided to croon a few lines for his fans and take a look on how it turned out.

9. Irfan Pathan

Now, this is a surprise. No one would have expected the soft-spoken Irfan Pathan to sing one of our favourite Bollywood songs this beautifully. In fact, the younger Pathan has always been full of promise and surprises. His spirited rendition of “Kabira” from Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani is as adorable as his hat-trick against Pakistan. Shoaib Akthar is one of the fastest and feared bowlers that the game has ever produced. He seemingly produces magic not just with the ball but with his voice too. The Rawalpindi Express is a frequent guest to many Indian reality shows and doesn’t fail to sweep Indians off their feet with his charm and skills every time he makes an appearance.
