MS Dhoni – The Untold Story, which is a recent movie on the life of currently India’s limited over Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni broke a lot of records at the box office and is said to be one of the very successful biopics made in Bollywood.

While we look at the box office collections and talk about how good the movie has been in terms of entertaining us, there are some concrete take outs from the story that can inspire one in many ways.

Here are the 10 instances shown in the film that can take you a long way in whatever you do if you pick up the right message in each of them.

#1 “Sir, if you allow, may I open the match?”

When you have that inimitable ability, marry it with your confidence to make it count. Right from his match against Kendra Vidyalaya during his teenage days, where Dhoni asks his coach to open the batting to the 2011 World Cup finals where he places himself ahead of the man of the tournament Yuvraj Singh.

This scene genuinely proves that if you have that unique gift and vision in you, all you need is a simple morale boost from yourself and you can be a part of an epic victory in all walks of life.

#2 “You’ll make a mistake if you hurry-up for everything”

Some of the unforgettable mistakes of our lives are often made by us while we are in a hurry to jump on to a conclusion and end up making hasty decisions. The phrase used in the movie before he starts narrating the Bihar v/s Punjab game to his friend aptly points out the fact that more often than not we always make mistakes being in a hurry and lose out on focus and detailing.

Rather we could train ourselves to be patient that could give us enough room for focus to make successful decisions.

#3 “You know where did we lose the match? Not on the Cricket field... but on the Basketball court...”

All the battles are lost in the mind before they are actually lost on the battlefield. Competition is all about being ready and willing to face the opposition wholeheartedly both mentally as well as physically. If you even think someone is superior to you and you cannot match them while competing against them, you definitely would not be able to.

Being intimidated or awestruck by competition only makes your path to a win even more difficult.

#4 “The reason for the party is I don’t want to forget this day”

Failures can shatter the strongest of us. It is how you deal with it determines what you eventually become in life. This scene from the film simply indicates all it takes is to be strong during failures and overcome difficult times by working even harder and being a better version of yourself with each day.

#5 “In life, not all balls are going to be the same”

As we all know, life is full of twists and turns which are beyond our control. However, to deal with such uncertainties, Mr.Ganguly rightly says, “merit pe khelna hai aur tike rehna hai”. Some days would be pleasant while some may be completely unexpected.

It’s very important to identify those bouncers and duck at the right time. We must all look to acquire this art of reacting to situations in the most appropriate way. This could well be applicable in terms of how we deal with different kinds of people as well.

#6 “Dad, if I get stuck in job security, then I won’t be able to do anything else ahead”

Most of the times, those life changing moments are when you decide to follow your instincts and choose to sail in the storm over going on a smooth sea. These decisions are the most difficult as they require a lot of courage and self-belief in going against the odds.

Had Dhoni continued his job as a ticket collector, India would have never seen a champion like him. It is a mark of a true fighter and a solid character that motivates them to take a fierce yet thoughtful decision.

#7 “Mahi you’ve been selected in the India A Team... Mahi, are you even listening?”

To get the best of results from whatever you do, the key is always to maintain focus on that thing, at that particular time. This scene from the movie depicts how focused Dhoni is at everything that he does (be it even playing a regular game of badminton) and gives it his complete attention and concentration.

He chooses to react to his selection in the India A team only after finishing his badminton game.

#8 “Mahi, we have a lot of time with us, right?”

We often unintentionally end up taking our loved ones for granted and do not actually express in words our feelings towards them thinking that they are going to be there always and that we can tell them about it anytime later. But life can always be unpredictable and as they say, the best time to do something is ‘now’. So why wait, when there is something you feel about someone, go ahead and let them know.

#9 “I know you were bluffing on the phone”

It is so easy to get carried away by success and leave your past far behind yourself. One of the most important facets of being successful is not forgetting those real people who were there through your struggle when nobody else was. Those moments you spent with them that gave you broad smiles even on your worst of days, will always be a part of your special memories.

#10 “We are all servants. And we are all doing national duty”

Your decisions might face a lot of opposition and may have an effect on your relationship with people at your workplace or anywhere else. But in the end, sticking around for what you feel is right and doing the ideal thing will surely get you success in the long run.
