Cricketers and their association with football has been becoming a mainstream thing now where the players are often seen trying a hand in football. Many famous cricketers have in the recent past talked about their love for the game and have also been vocal about the football club they support.

English cricketers have come out to be passionate followers of some of these either because they were brought up in that city or were impressed with the game of that club. But fans are mostly unaware of it and are interested in learning about these followings. Here are 5 such English cricketers and their favourite football clubs:

#1 James Anderson - Arsenal

James Anderson has been England’s prime bowler for a while and has a reputation of destructing the opposition with his pace and swing attack. However, he has had a rather dismal on-going series against India where he hasn’t be able to weave his magic with the ball. He also was part of a heated conversation with Ravichandran Ashwin and Virat Kohli during the 4th Test in Mumbai that didn’t go down will with his stature.

However, Anderson follows football passionately despite having commitments to cricket and his team. Though he claims that he follows Burnley’s development since it being his hometown, he is also an avid Arsenal fan and has been seen many a time during Barclays Premier League matches.

The 34-year-old is not in good form and will be missing the 5th Test against India in Chennai.

Ali has had a stupendous series against India where he has scored 257 runs in 8 innings and has also picked up nine wickets in 5 matches contributing immensely to his team.

What many of his fans are not aware of is the fact that he is a die-hard Liverpool follower and makes sure that he attends as many matches as he can. The 29-year-old was also announced as the ambassador for Liverpool’s official fan club in Pakistan. He has played in 36 Tests and 65 ODI’s and is known to be one of the tallest bowlers to have represented England. His height gives him the advantage to dominate batsman and his performances have helped England seal the match in tough situations.

His love and passion for football is not hidden where he has been seen participating in various football matches. The 27-year-old hails from Watford and hence follows the Watford F.C. devotedly. He has often displayed his support to the club in various forms which also included sharing a photo of the team t-shirt with his name on its back. Not only that, he closely follows the development of the team in the crucial leagues and is always ready to show support to them.

#4 Chris Woakes – Aston Villa

Chris Woakes might not have been able to deliver at the international level yet but his domestic records and performances will vouch for his talent and consistency. He has performed fantastically in the domestic circuit where he scored 4899 runs and taken 424 wickets in 124 first class matches that he has played. Given a proper chance, he would be able to announce himself at the international level properly.

Woakes follows football as well and is a die-hard and avid follower of the Aston Villa football club. He even manages to keep up with his favourite club’s performance even while playing cricket. The Birmingham-born cricketer is always delighted to see the club perform even its losing and not performing well.

The 27-year-old will be seen playing against in the series against India and will hope to make a mark for himself.

The 30-year-old is a follower of the Nottingham Forest and is an ardent fan of its strategy and gameplay. Born in Nottingham, the England pacer’s affection towards the club became famous after he put up a picture on social media where he is the manager of the club in a game. He has also been seen during matches of the club where he tries to attend as many as possible of them.
