Mahendra Singh Dhoni has achieved tremendous glory for his country as an individual cricketer and as a captain. He has already achieved some staggering records which speak volumes about his success.

The 34-year-old has led India to two World Cup titles in two different formats. He was the captain of the Indian team when they won the inaugural T20 World Cup held in South Africa in 2007. He was also the leader of the victorious Indian team which won the World Cup in 2011.

The wicketkeeper-batsman is also the most successful Indian wicket-keeper with the highest number of dismissals in both Tests and ODIs. Apart from his wicket-keeping records his batting record also stands tall in the 50-over format.

He was the captain of the Indian side which reached the No. 1 Test ranking in the official ICC rankings. Despite achieving success, Dhoni has also accumulated some embarrassing records during his distinguished career.

Here we are list the five most ignominious records created by MS Dhoni.

First Indian captain to lose a series against Bangladesh

The Indian cricket team toured Bangladesh during the last monsoon to play one Test match and a three-match ODI series. After drawing the only Test of the tour the Indian team played the ODI series under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

For the first time in history, India lost two consecutive matches against Bangladesh and by that, they also lost the three-match ODI series. MS Dhoni holds the dubious record of being the first Indian captain to lose a series against Bangladesh, a record which is surely not cherished by his fans.

India lost the first encounter against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka by 79 runs and also lost the next match at the same venue by six wickets. Though India won the third and last match of the series it only saved them from being whitewashed by our not so mighty neighbours.

Hasn’t scored a half-century in T20Is

MS Dhoni is one of the most experienced T20 players in the world and is certainly the most experienced T20I captain. He has scored 1041 runs in 68 T20Is at an average of 35.89 and with a strike-rate of 121.89 but the hard-hitting batsman hasn’t scored a T20I half-century yet.

The Ranchi-born cricketer has a total of 93 international half-centuries along with 15 IPL centuries. However, he is yet to score his maiden fifty in an international T20 match.

For someone, who is one of the finest limited-overs batsmen of all time, this is a very odd stat. He has scored 17 fifties in 231 Twenty20 matches but hasn’t fired in the international arena.

No hundreds outside Indian-subcontinent

MS Dhoni’s batting records are something which makes every cricket fan realise how important he has been for the Indian cricket team. However, he hasn’t scored a single hundred outside the Indian sub-continent.

He has 15 international hundreds to his name and a glorious double-hundred in Test matches. Dhoni has scored nine centuries in ODIs and six tons in Test matches but all of them were scored in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

In 39 Test matches and in 102 ODI matches outside the Indian-subcontinent he has failed to register a single hundred. This is quite a record which the right-handed batsman holds.

Most number of overseas Test match losses as the captain of India

Dhoni holds the record for losing most away Test matches as an Indian captain

MS Dhoni holds the record for leading the Indian team in the second-most number of Test matches. Under his captaincy, India also claimed the status of the No. 1 Test side in the world.

The wicketkeeper-batsman has led India in 60 Test matches with an impressive winning percentage of 45%. Winning 27 Test matches, Dhoni holds the record for the most number of wins as an Indian captain.

However, he also clinched the record for losing the most number of away Test matches as captain. India lost 18 games while he was leading the team and out of them, 15 were away.

He is also second in the list of losing the most number of Test matches as the captain of the Indian team. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi holds the record with 19 Test losses as captain.

First Indian captain to lose 4 consecutive Test series

Under the leadership of MS Dhoni India lost 4 consecutive Test series

Dhoni is the first Indian captain to whitewash Australia in a series which featured more than three Test matches. The feat was more remarkable as the whitewash came after a gap of 43 years

In his career as the captain, he has achieved plenty of triumphs but has also set some dubious records on the way. He became the first Indian captain to lose four consecutive Test series.

In 2013, India went to South Africa to play a two-match Test series under his captaincy and lost the series 0-1. The following year India also lost a two-match series against New Zealand away from home.

In 2014, the Dhoni-led Indian team toured England and lost a five-match Test series 1-3. India went down under to play a four-match test series against Australia and lost that 0-2. Though Dhoni led India in only two matches of that series, he was the official captain of the tour.

He missed the first match due to injury and retired from Test cricket after the third match thus missing the fourth and final match.
