Adam Voges surpasses Sachin Tendulkar and Sir Donald Bradman in record-breaking knock

Sir Donal Bradman and Sachin Tendulkar are undoubtedly two of the most iconic names in the sport of cricket and Australian cricketer Adam Voges has surpassed both these legends of the game during his epic knock against New Zealand at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on Saturday.

Resuming at his overnight score of 7, Voges made the most of his reprieve late on during the opening day’s play when the umpire wrongly called a delivery from Doug Bracewell that had crashed onto the Australian’s off stump a no-ball. Well, cricket is a game of opportunities and Voges is certainly proving that to be the case as he continues to pile on runs at will against their Trans-Tasman rivals.

At stumps on Day 2, Voges was batting on 176* with Australia taking a healthy lead of 280 runs with four wickets remaining. Usman Khawaja continued his outstanding form with a brilliant 140 but with the number of records broken, it was Voges who made the headlines for the second day running, but this time on a more pleasant note.

Most runs between successive dismissals in Test cricket

Upon reaching a score of 115 during the evening session on Day 2, Voges had eclipsed the Australian record for most consecutive runs without being dismissed held previously by former skipper Michael Clarke at 489 runs. Voges carried on batting and by the time he reached 123, the 12 -year-old record held by Tendulkar for most runs between two dismissals (497 runs) in the longer format of the game was broken.

Voges has now scored 551 Test runs since being last dismissed by the same opposition during the historic Day-night Test at Adelaide on November 27.

Highest Test batting averages (Min 15 innings)

When Voges reached 172, he had an average of exactly 100, and he added four more runs before the end of day’s play to sit pretty at the top of the Test batting averages list with a minimum of 15 innings to their name. Voges has now scored 1204 runs from 19 innings at an average of 100.33

Along with the above two feats, Voges also became only the third Australian after the second World War, joining Adam Gilchrist and David Warner, to score three consecutive Test centuries in as many innings, with the latter doing it twice.
