Reports: Alastair Cook to be retained as England captain for 2015 World Cup

According to reports, current England skipper Alastair Cook is all set to lead the team for the 2015 World Cup to be held in New Zealand and Australia.

Suggestions of replacing Cook with either Joe Root or Eoin Morgan were doing the rounds after a dismal show in the ODI series against India, where the hosts lost the one-day series 3-1. England selectors and Peter Moores, the head coach, appear to have retained the left-handed opener as captain for the showpiece event.

Lacklustre performances by the 29-year-old in the ODI format has seen him heavily criticised, with the likes of Geoffrey Boycott, Michael Vaughan and Graeme Swann calling for his resignation due to his lack of runs in the limited overs format.

Cook scored a meagre 118 runs with an average of 29.50 in the recent ODI series against India, with the highest score being 46. His ODI form looks even worse over the calendar year 2014, as he has only managed one half century against Sri Lanka, with a below par average of 31.07.

England have two ODI series before they play the World Cup - against Sri Lanka over 7 one day matches in the island nation and later travel to Australia to play a tri-series which also includes India.
