Criticism of umpires might see Angelo Mathews suspended

Angelo Mathews can be suspended for the next test at Headingley

Sri Lankan Test skipper Angelo Mathews faces suspension after he criticised the umpires and match officials according to Daily Mirror.

Mathew said that the bowling action of Sri Lankan bowlers are questioned only in certain part of the world where he was indirectly referring to ECB after spinner Sachitra Senanayake was reported for suspected bowling action.

This has led to ECB lodging an official complaint with the ICC over the remarks Mathews made in media.

Sri Lanka Cricket though hasn't received any official communication, but ECB have reportedly informed SLC about Mathews outburst in front of the media. SLC may hire a lawyer in their bid to protect Mathews but they are aware of the potential danger the all-rounder faces.

Mathews may tender an apology both to ICC and ECB in order to avoid facing a financial penalty or even get suspended if found guilty.

The 27-year-old scored a magnificent century in the first innings of the first Test and later played an important innings in the second innings as the Islanders went on to save the Test match in a thrilling fashion.

According to sources, England has not taken well to the mankanding of Jos Butler by Sachitra Senanayake and hence have been targetting the Sri Lankans through indecent comment many of which includes racial undertones.

Sri Lanka will face a blow if their skipper is suspended as not only was he good with the bat but his experience as a seam bowler is also crucial to the team’s chances of winning at result prone Headingley.
