Chris Rogers struck twin half-centuries in Brisbane

Australia coach Darren Lehmann has praised opening batsman Chris Rogers’ performance in the second innings of the second Test at Brisbane on Saturday. The 37-year-old scored a half-century to help Australia chase down a target of 128 for victory, not to forget his knock of 55 in the first innings.

Rogers hasn’t had the greatest of times in 2014, having scored just two centuries at the start of the year in Sydney and Port Elizabeth, and these two half-centuries at Brisbane would certainly lift a bit of pressure from his shoulders.

Lehmann lauded Rogers’ performance and even compared him to West Indian great Brian Lara.

"It was like Brian Lara batting. He was unbelievable and fantastic," Lehmann said.

India were bundled out for 224 in their second innings. The hosts lost David Warner and Shane Watson early in their chase of 128, but Rogers played a fluent innings that included 10 fours, and when he was eventually dismissed for 55, he had ensured that his side were well-placed for a comfortable win.

“It is very impressive for an experienced guy to do that as he held the innings together. It could have easily been 20/2 and gone the other way. Small totals are always difficult and it's best to get it over with as soon as you can,” Lehmann added.

The third Test will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) from Friday.
