Bridgetown (Barbados) – Caribbean Premier League (CPL) champions Barbados Tridents will leave from here on Sunday for the Champions League Twenty20 in India, confident of defying the odds and making inroads at the lucrative tournament.

The Tridents, led by new captain Rayad Emrit, will join nine other teams, including the likes of Indian Premier League (IPL) giants Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, and battle in two groups for a place in the semi-final, reports CMC.

Emrit said there was a great mood inside the Tridents camp and the entire squad was highly motivated ahead of the CLT20 campaign.

"Having won the CPL everyone is up for the Champions League Twenty20... that was the main focus at the beginning of the tournament - to win the CPL and go to the Champions League," he said.

"Having spoken to most of the guys they are very excited. They want to go to India, they've seen the tournament on television and they know what it looks like. It's a great atmosphere. They've heard about it and they really want to be there."

"So most of the guys are really anxious and I know they are going to be put in the hard work for us to do well in the Champions League."

Tridents will do battle in Group B which includes South African side Cape Cobras, Australian Big Bash side Hobart Hurricanes and IPL outfit Kings XI Punjab.
