Melbourne, April 15 (IANS) Former Australia all-rounder Tom Moody signed on as the director of cricket at Big Bash League (BBL) team Melbourne Renegades Tuesday. The 48-year-old will be responsible for list management, talent identification and recruitment.

“I’ve admired Tom’s coaching and man-management from afar for many years. Last season I enjoyed the privilege of assisting him at the Hyderabad Sunrisers during the Indian Premier League (IPL). It was a wonderful learning experience and one I’m looking forward to repeating when this year’s IPL begins,” Renegades head coach Simon Helmot said.

“To have Tom working with the Renegades is a real boon. It also takes a lot of pressure off me and our chief executive Stuart Coventry knowing that this newly-created role will be filled by such a capable Twenty20 tactician. We look forward to welcoming him and working together to build a list capable of making a serious play for the BBL.”

Moody is also the director of cricket in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Helmot will coach Trinidad and Tobago in this year’s CPL, overseeing a side that includes Renegades all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.

Coventry said the addition of Moody was a significant move that would assist with talent identification, negotiation and retention.

“Any club in the BBL would love to have Tom on board in this capacity. His T20 knowledge is enviable as is his intelligence on players around the world. He’ll be working behind the scenes to ensure the best long-term results for the Renegades at the recruitment table,” Coventry said.
