BCCI advisory committee comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly could be scrapped

BCCI continues to crack the ‘conflict of interest’ whip

Barely six months into it’s functioning, the BCCI advisory committee, comprising of former cricketing greats such as Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman could be scrapped today, during the AGM in Mumbai.

According to sources close to Sportskeeda, BCCI have cited ‘conflict of interest’ as a reason for the oust. A senior BCCI official said, “Both Tendulkar and Laxman are associated to IPL franchises such as Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad. It will be wrong to exist with a committee that has pre-existent affiliation with competitors. As we are on the verge of making a serious crack-down on cricketers with private contracts being a part of the BCCI, it is unjust to exclude the advisory committee. Even Sourav is busy with his CAB committments.”

The conflict of interest debate has been an on-going dialogue within BCCI’s hierarchy. Today, Secretary Anurag Thakur distributed a 29 page document, to the various state assocation. The official stated, “the documents were basically a guideline for all state associations to follow with regard to conflict of interest.” However, various state associations have objected to these new rules as several ex-cricketers are vital to their cricket setups.

The Ganguly-Tendulkar-Laxman committee was created during late BCCI Chief Jagmohan Dalmiya’s regime. It’s attempt was to bridge the gap between players and administrators, to create a functional developmental unit. However, with BCCI cracking the whip on the involvement of former cricketers with pre-existent affiliations, this could be yet another committee to bite the dust.
