BCCI officials consider asking Dave Richardson to challenge James Anderson's verdict

England fast bowler James Anderson is not out of the woods as yet, with The Daily Mail reporting that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials might request Dave Richardson, the International Cricket Council (ICC) CEO, to challenge Gordon Lewis’ verdict.

India had charged Anderson with a Level 3 offence after his altercation with Ravindra Jadeja during day 2 of the 1st Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, but Lewis, the Judicial Commissioner, had pronounced the English fast bowler to not be guilty of the offence he was charged with.

The acquittal of Anderson has led to severe dissatisfaction among the Indian officials, and they are now on the verge of asking Richardson, who under ICC rules is the only person capable of appealing, to challenge Lewis’ decision.

The BCCI, though, when asked for confirmation on whether that is the case were reticent, stating that they will wait for a detailed ICC report before deciding their future course of action.

"We are expected to receive a detailed copy of the order that was passed by the Judicial Commissioner either by today or tomorrow," Sanjay Patel, the BCCI secretary, said.

"We will only be able to take a call in this regard after receiving the order copy. A detailed legal analysis is required before deciding on future course. Our legal team will study the report and will give us feedback. In such cases, every point needs to be studied minutely and it will take some time.

"So it is premature to conclude whether we will appeal," he added.
