The Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) President Jagmohan Dalmiya has passed away at the age of 75. He was recently hospitalised after a cardiac arrest on September 17, 2015, in BM Birla hospital in Kolkata’s Alipore area. Earlier the same evening, Dalmiya complained of chest pain, before suddenly collapsing to the ground.

Dalmiya was appointed BCCI Chief earlier in March, after a gap of 10 years. Known as one of the finest cricket administrators India has ever produced, the 75-year old was not keeping well for the past couple of months. Several BCCI officials have asked Dalmiya to step down, due to his health issues for a smooth running of the Board.

Famous Indian cricket commentator and analyst, Harsha Bhogle tweeted saying: “Jagmohan Dalmiya was good for Indian cricket at a crucial time; big role in transforming India into a financially powerful cricket nation,” Bhogle said. “Quite apart from transforming finances, Jagmohan Dalmiya and Inderjit Bindra loved Indian cricket.”

Former Indian World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev said: “He is the finest administrator and I was lucky to work with him. He was dedicated to cricket and worked 20 hours a day. Dalmiya monetised the sport and made cricket big in the world.”

“He's one of the biggest contributors to the sport of cricket. He conceived the entire idea of tv rights and now world cricket is doing well because of him,” said former BCCI Chairman Rajeev Shukla.

Cricketers, followers of the game, and many others took to Twitter to condole the sad demise of BCCI’s President:
