BCCI set to discuss age limit for domestic umpires

Will BCCI curtail India’s tour of South Africa?

The main agenda of Indian cricket board BCCI’s working committee meet today in Kolkata will be the itinerary for India’s upcoming tour of South Africa and a disciplinary panel report on sacked IPL chief Lalit Modi.

The meet was called following reports that the two-member internal probe panel of the Indian cricket board has cleared its chief N. Srinivasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan of betting charges in the contentious sixth edition of the IPL.

While Cricket South Africa (CSA) has officially announced the November tour, to be comprised of three Tests, seven ODIs and two T20 internationals, the BCCI is reportedly keen on curtailing the tour to two Tests, five ODIs and two T20 Internationals.

When asked to speak on the issue, BCCI’s acting President Dalmiya said, “We have not taken any final call on the tour as yet, hopefully we will send an alternative itinerary over to CSA after the meeting.”

Another group of officials in the BCCI are looking forward to limit the series to protest the appointment of former ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat as the new CEO of Cricket South Africa.

Among other pending issues to be discussed in the meet, the Board will also take a stand on reducing the age limit of domestic-level match referees to 60, which would mean losing prominent names like Kalyan Sunderam, B Raghunath, Raju Mukherjee and Balbir Singh, who have all crossed the age limit.
