Former left-arm pacer Zaheer Khan feels that Twenty-20 is not only a batsman’s game and bowlers are the real game-changers in the format.
It is widely said that cricket is a batsman’s game, and the Twenty-20 format is no such exception. Bowlers get smashed around more often these days, thanks to heavy bats and rules like free-hit which makes it tougher for modern day bowlers to contain or even take wickets.

Zaheer, who has played 17 T20s, feels that the format is equally suited for batsman and bowlers. As quoted in Deccan Chronicles, he said, “There are a lot of tactical inputs required on the field from a bowler. I believe bowlers are the game changers in T20. Someone like Mitchell Starc has proved it time and again. Something that never goes wrong in death overs is a good yorker.”
Khan, who was attending a promotional event for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Premier League, said that he is quite busy preparing for the next IPL and also his business venture. “Right now I am focused on what I have it on my plate, like playing the next season of the IPL. I am also spending a lot of energy on my business venture - a fitness chain. Those things are keeping me busy. But I am open to different roles” said Khan.

‘Zak’ lauded fast bowler Mohammad Shami and said that he has all the qualities needed to lead the Indian fast bowling attack, “It’s good to see him getting his confidence back. He was away for 8-9 months due to injury and it took a little longer for recovery. And I have always endorsed the idea of playing more matches. It’s good for the bowlers, as they need to find a rhythm.”
Zak’ is arguably one of the best pacers India has ever produced and is the fourth highest wicket taker for India in ODIs and lead the Indian attack for over a decade. Khan has retired from International cricket and played in the Indian Premier League with Delhi Daredevils.
Reports suggest that Zaheer could become India’s bowling coach in the future and join the backroom staff on new Indian head coach, Anil Kumble.
