BPL: One of Dhaka Gladiators' owners found guilty of corruption

Shihab Jishan Chowdury, one of the owners of Dhaka Gladiators, has been found guilty of “being part to an effort to fix” a match in the Bangladeshi Premier League 2013.

Kent Allrounder Darren Stevens, who had been charged for failing to report a corrupt approach during the tournament, and five others – Mahabubul Alam, Mosharaff Hossain, Salim Chowhury, the Dhaka Gladiators owner; Gaurav Rawat, CEO of the Gladiators franchise; and Mohammad Rafique, the bowling coach - have been discharged as not guilty by the tribunal investigating alleged corruption in the BPL. Bangladesh star player Mohammad Ashraful was the first to admit, after which nine other individuals were charged. Another player who is yet to be named also confessed to fixing.

Ashraful is already facing a ban from playing cricket, which was imposed on him by the BCB. The disciplinary panel set by the BCB formed an anti-corruption tribunal to probe into the fixing issue. A preliminary hearing was held by the tribunal in November last year, followed by a full hearing in the month of January.

The extent of punishment for Shihab, Ashraful and the unnamed player will be announced soon. The spot-fixing issue came to light in May 2013, when BCB president Nazmul Hassan confirmed that a Bangladesh player was being interrogated by the ICC.
