Australia in command after Voges' century

Adam Voges celebrates after reaching his maiden century

West Indies started off well before the 35-year-old debutant Adam Voges surged the Australian innings to help them finish Day 2 145 runs ahead. Old is gold and Voges didn’t take any time to prove that right, he scored a brilliant 130 runs not out to make things calm in the visitors dug out.

Devendra Bishoo was the pick of the bowler for the day; he ripped off Australia’s line-up to claim his career best bowling figures with 6 wickets. But the left break was not enough indeed to stop the mighty Australians as Voges innings was well backed by the Australian tail-enders. Last three wickets of the visitors added 192 runs with the help of Voges.

Nathan Lyon (22) and Josh Hazlewood (39) were determined to give good support to Voges, their handy partnership helped him to become the oldest player to record a Test hundred on debut. Marlon Samuels came into Windies rescue eventually after he dismissed Hazlewood, to finally stop the visitors’ bus on 318 runs.

Aussies opening bowling pair of both the Mitchells, Johnson and Starc, removed Windies openers Shai Hope(15) and Kraig Brathwaite(2) off two successive deliveries. The host were 2 wickets down at the end day’s play with 25 runs on board. They trail now by 145 runs with 8 wickets remaining.

Windies middle order especially the two batsmen on the crease, Darren Bravo and debutant Shane Dowrich, have to pull up their socks and play responsible knocks because home team’s survival depends on them the most. Kangaroos’ pace attack is in-form and will try to pick up early wickets on Day 3 as they know that’ll assure them victory.
