Kolkata, June 21 (IANS) The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) which staged four World T20 matches earlier this year including the high-voltage India-Pakistan clash and the final, has made a profit in excess of Rs 5 crore from the ticket sales.
"We have had an income of Rs 8.5 crore. Five crore from the ticket sales during World T20," CAB joint secretary Avishek Dalmiya told reporters here after its working committee meeting on Tuesday.
The magnitude of the profit is huge considering the fact that CAB had revealed a deficit of Rs 3.70 crore at this time last year.
The regional cricket governing body now plans to invest the amount on developing the infrastructure here and in the districts.
"We have made huge profits. We will revamp the infrastructure and will try and develop indoor facilities in districts," CAB president Sourav Ganguly said.
Speaking about hosting New Zealand in a Test in October, Dalmiya said: "We want to invite some of the former players from both the countries. We also have lots of plans which include a kids arena, so that a family can have a day out."
In the meeting, there was also a proposal given to erect a statue of late BCCI and CAB president Jagmohan Dalmiya and a name a competition after him.
"A committee will be constituted to have a look into this," Avishek Dalmiya, who is Dalmiya's son, said.
