Carlos Braithwaite, the all-rounder and debutant was happy as he contributed a half century and celebrated after his first wicket against Australia, as reported by IBNLive. This was probably the only positive that came out of West Indies’ match against the Australians.
The Caribbean team’s dressing room was spirited after Braithwaite’s 59 run innings. West Indies have lacked confidence and competence on this tour and getting positives like youngsters playing well is a huge plus point for the near future.
The Indies resumed on 91-6 after they were hammered for a huge 551-3. Braithwaite added a 90 run partnership with the left hander Darren Bravo and led the team to a decent 271 after being dismissed at tea.
Although the youngster’s team was up against a massive lead of 459 runs at stumps, as Steve Smith’s team displayed a terrific display of batting. The 27 year old was happy that his team could at least have a moral victory at the MCG.
He said, “I was just happy that I could contribute to a fighting day's performance and we hope that the fans in the West Indies get a smile back on their face and realise that we're not just here for being here's sake.”

He was happy he could represent his national side, as it was his dream to do the same. He feels that the team can play well and the spirit in the dressing room is very lively.
“We actually want to compete and do well. I know I desperately want to represent the West Indies. It's the stuff dreams are made of. It's something I will hold dear to my heart every second that I'm out there representing the West Indies with the maroon cap on. I think the team spirit is there. Fortunately for me I see it day in day out.”
Braithwate was dismissed twice by fast bowler James Pattinson when he was bowled on 13 and caught at long when he was 50 runs, what’s surprising is that he was called back to the crease both the times as it was seen on the TV review that the bowler overstepped both the times.
His knock was a good marketing for his side business as the owner of Trident Sports, a sporting goods manufacturer. He played with bat of the same company and said, “Ultimately I want it to eventually stand on its own two feet, a noticeable brand worldwide.”
He also took the crucial wicket of David Warner, when Warner was caught at gully by Jason Holder for 17 runs. The exciting part came when Holder and Braithwaite had a heated conversation with David Warner.
He had a football style of celebration and when asked about his way, he said happily, “I have quite a few (celebrations), (Holder) almost took me out. Fortunately there was one left standing and I went and got my slide in."
With West Indies’ having a bad run in Australia, this debutant looked promising for future prospects. He looks positive and would love to contribute for his national side.
