Champaka Ramanayake has been reappointed as Sri Lanka’s fast bowling coach, replacing Chaminda Vaas, who was stated to be having a tough relationship with the head coach and former team-mate Marvan Atapattu, and had parted ways with the SLC this April.

Ramanayake had held the Sri Lanka bowling coach position until 2012, and had also served as the Bangladesh bowling coach in 2008.

"The appointment takes effect from June 1 and Ramanayake's appointment will cover three inbound tours namely of Pakistan, India and the West Indies," an SLC release said.

Ramanayake is a highly respected bowling coach and has closely worked with limited overs national team spearhead Lasith Malinga, and Test bowlers Suranga Lakmal and Shaminda Eranga, apart from having played an important role in the discovery of several quicks currently in national contention.

Ramanayake, a former pacer, also played in 18 Tests between 1988 and 1993 and 62 ODIs between 1986 and 1995 for Sri Lanka.
