Chris Gayle visits Old Trafford, jokes about signing for Manchester United

Chris Gayle
Chris Gayle is an avid football fan.

Known for his maverick batting style and tongue-in-cheek remarks, Chris Gayle, the West Indian batting star, is one of the world‘s most popular cricketers. He was part of the Royal Challengers, who finished runners-up in the recently concluded Indian Premier League. However, Gayle’s involvement in sports is not limited to just cricket. His love for football is familiar to his fans and followers, so it wasn’t a surprise when he was pictured outside one of the most recognizable football stadiums.

Active on social media platforms, Gayle recently uploaded a picture of himself standing outside Old Trafford, Manchester United’s home ground and the largest club stadium in the United Kingdom, holding up a scarf of the club. The caption read: “Meeting went well with the new manager…once I get my terms then I will sign with @manchesterunited #SixMachine”. He was also seen wearing the club’s familiar red kit. The picture was shared by him on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

In another picture uploaded by him recently, he was seen holding the club’s jersey with the number 333 along with the name “Universe Boss” on the backside. He captioned the image as “Top Striker...”, joking at his intentions to be part of the United line-up. Gayle uses 333 on all his limited overs cricket jerseys, which denotes his highest Test score, achieved against Sri Lanka in 2010-11. Gayle describes himself as “Universe Boss” on his Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Gayle has been an avid Manchester United fan, and has often joked how he would have been the best footballer in the world if he weren’t a cricketer. He has also revealed that he used to play football as a kid, and it was his first passion in sports. Gayle joins Indian players like Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh, as well as overseas cricketers like Eoin Morgan and Mahela Jayawardene whose love for Manchester United is well known. Dhoni was also appointed the brand ambassador of the English Premier League in Indian by STAR Sports a few years back, to connect with the football-crazy audience in the country and make the game more popular.

Chris Gayle is currently in England as part of Somerset for the NatWest T20 blast.
