The Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) has almost doubled its profits from the 2013 edition of the big money Indian Premier League(IPL) compared to its profit from the previous edition of the tournament in 2012.

The finance committee of the BCCI met in Chennai on 22nd January to brief members about the financial highlights of the current financial year. Reliable sources have confirmed that the BCCI made a mind boggling Rs. 385.36 crore profit from IPL 6 which is more than a 100% increase compared to profits from IPL 5 which amounted to Rs. 174.73 crore.

“The BCCI’s profit has increased by Rs 210 crore approximately from IPL according to audited accounts. Also it has been noted that the affiliated units got something in the tune of Rs 32 crore during last year. Mr Srinivasan also apprised the finance committee that he will pushing for a bigger share for India at the board meeting and will tomorrow take working committee’s approval,” a finance committee member told PTI on Wednesday.

It has also come to light that the BCCI will have to bear a tax burden of Rs 550 crore as the tax exemptions on cricket have been withdrawn. The cricket board has contested the decision and is awaiting a verdict on the same.

The finance committee also approved the use of credit cards with a credit limit of Rs 10 lakh for BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel, Cricket Operations chief MV Sridhar, treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary and IPL CEO Sundar Raman.
