5 uncapped Indian players who could be picked for the Bangladesh ODI series

In June 2015, India's tour of Bangladesh returns, for one Test match and three ODIs. The schedule for the tour is set as compact as possible, with only 1 Test match, which will be played at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali stadium in Fatullah and then all three one-day matches at Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Mirpur, on 18th, 21st and 24th June.

However, it is expected that the Indian selectors would be looking to pick some youngsters for the ODI series and give a much-needed rest to the senior players who have constantly been busy playing cricket since the tour of Australia.

Here is a list of 5 Indian uncapped players who could be picked for the ODI series against Bangladesh:

5. Yuzvendra Chahal

Young leg-spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal plays for Haryana in domestic cricket. He has been the go-to spinner for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League as he has the knack of picking wickets at crucial intervals. Prior to his induction into the RCB squad, Chahal played for Mumbai Indians and was one of the integral cogs in scripting their win in the Champions League T20, back in 2011.

The 24-year-old has scalped 27 wickets in the 25 matches he has played so far in the IPL. If Ravichandran Ashwin or Ravindra Jadeja is rested, Chahal would have a very strong chance of making it to the squad. Chahal could well be the answer to India’s search to find a genuine leg-spinner.

4. Karun Nair

Karnataka’s talented middle-order batsman Karun Nair will definitely be on the selectors’ radar as he has performed exceedingly well in the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy season, scoring 709 runs in 10 matches at an average of 43. He also became the second player in Ranji Trophy history to score a triple hundred in the final, when he scored 328 runs against Tamil Nadu at the Wankhede stadium.

Nair was successful for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL last season (2014) as he went on to score 330 runs in 11 matches at an average of 33. In the current season (2015), Nair scored 61 off only 38 balls that propelled RR to a big score against Delhi Daredevils.

3. Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav is an attacking right-handed batsman and an occasional right-arm medium pace bowler who plays domestic cricket for Mumbai. He won the MA Chidambaram Trophy presented to the best cricketer at the U-22 level in the 2010-11 season. Yadav had a very good season in the Ranji Trophy this time as he aggregated 690 runs in 10 matches at an average of 43. He was appointed as the skipper of the Mumbai team this season but he stepped down from the post after the loss to Tamil Nadu to concentrate entirely on his batting.

The 24-year-old has already established himself in the (IPL) and is known for his big-hitting and experimental shots batting in the middle-order. In the 2014 season of the IPL, he played some match-winning knocks for KKR and averaged 32.80 with a strike-rate of over 140.

2. Shreyas Iyer

20-year-old Shreyas Iyer has been a revelation in the domestic circuit. Iyer made his List-A debut for Mumbai in November 2014 playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2014-15, where he scored 273 runs in that tournament at an average of 54.60. He made his first-class debut in December 2014 during the Ranji Trophy. He notched up a total of 809 runs in his debut Ranji season at an average of 50.56 including two centuries.

Delhi Daredevils bought him for a whopping 2.6 crores in the IPL auction this season and he stamped his authority immediately by playing a match-winning knock of 83 off 56 against Mumbai Indians. Shreyas has aggregated 349 runs in 12 matches played so far. If there is a youngster who completely deserves a chance to play in the international level, it is Shreyas Iyer.

1. Sandeep Sharma

Right arm swing bowler Sandeep Sharma rose to prominence during the U-19 World Cup in 2012, where he took 4 wickets in the final to lead his team to victory while at the same time emerging as the joint highest wicket-taker of the tournament (12 wickets). Sandeep continued his good run of form in the 2014 Vijay Hazare Trophy where he took 17 wickets in 6 games for Punjab and Ranji Trophy (2014-15) in which he managed 28 wickets in 7 games.

His strong performances in the domestic circuit helped him to earn a contract with Kings XI Punjab. Sandeep has out-performed a lot of senior bowlers in the IPL and has a tally of 37 wickets in 27 games. He has been the strike bowler for KXIP this season and in the game against Mumbai Indians recently, he managed to bowl 6 yorkers in 6 deliveries in the 19th over of the innings, which is a rarity among India bowlers. Sandeep can be a perfect death bowler in limited overs cricket for India.
