David Warner scored a double-century in the second Test at Perth

Australian cricketer David Warner hurt his left hand while trying to catch a high ball during a training session at Adelaide Oval. It hasn’t been a month since the Aussie vice-captain came back to the team after suffering from a fractured thumb.

After his injury, Warner left the ground with team doctor Peter Brukner. However, much to the relief of fans, the cricketer came back to the field after some time and practised batting at the nets. Apart from playing slow bowlers, he also faced throw-downs from batting coach Michael Di Venuto in this session

Speaking about his fracture, the 29-year-old had said last month that some pain is still there in his left thumb.

“I got hit against India in Brisbane on the same thumb last season as well and the pain is always going to be there. It is about me getting through that pain. You speak to any wicketkeeper in the world they are playing with broken fingers so I am not complaining at all,” Warner said.

Owing to his thumb fracture, Warner had been excluded from England’s one-day tour in September and the cancelled Bangladesh tour.

So far Warner has been very successful in the ongoing series against New Zealand. In the first Test at Brisbane he scored centuries (163 and 116) in both the innings. In second test at Perth he went one step ahead and scored his career best of 253 runs in Australia’s first innings.

Talking about his current form, the cricketer told Herald Sun, “It comes down to hard work and being fresh and keeping on riding the roller coaster you’re on. That’s what happens in cricket, it’s ups and downs. It’s one of those things where you have to keep being at your best and keep doing what’s been working for you, and not be too complacent.

“That’s one thing as a batter, you’ve got to try to step on top of your form – which is hard to do. You’ve just got to go back to your basics, know what you’re doing well and how you’re preparing for games. And don’t change anything, that’s all I do.”

Australia will play the third test of Trans-Tasman trophy against New Zealand at Adelaide Oval, venue of the historic day and night Test match.
