The day Virat Kohli gave Sachin Tendulkar his most prized possession

Virat Kohli wants to see a film on Sachin Tendulkar’s life

A frequent topic of national debate has been whether or not Virat Kohli can break Sachin Tendulkar’s records. However, time and again India’s current Test team captain has expressed his admiration for the Master Blaster. After the latter announced his retirement, Kohli gifted him his most cherished possession.

Kohli’s farewell gift to Sachin

In the 'Unknown Sachin Tapes' session of Times Lit Fest, some unknown stories were shared. After Sachin had announced his retirement, he was spending some alone time in the dressing room. Kohli came with something like a pouch and handed it to him saying, “I want you to have this. It was given to me by my father. I am giving this to you.” The batting legend opened it and found some threads inside. When the 27-year-old touched his feet, Sachin said, “Arre tujhe toh galey lagna hai(Hey, we should be hugging instead).” Before walking out of the room with tears in his eyes Kohli said, “I will miss you.”

Twitter banter

This is not the only instance of these two cricketers’ camaraderie. The two were engaged in a light-hearted banter on Twitter. Virat is the co-owner of International Premier Tennis League franchise UAE Royals. When Sachin expressed his desire to play in the league, Virat said, “Not sure you have what it takes @sachin_rt paaji!”

Sachin is Kohli’s inspiration

Previosuly, on many occasions Kohli had said that Sachin is his inspiration. “He is my inspiration. After seeing those two knocks in Sharjah, I got really inspired to win games single-handedly for India. I used to dream of doing something like that for the country,” India’s new Test captain had said once.

The Under-19 World Cup wining Indian captain also wants to see a film on his inspiration’s life. According to a report on Hindustan Times Kohli had said, “I really want a movie made on Sachin Tendulkar’s life. That is something I’m looking forward to. There will be so much emotion to that movie. How one man has given so much happiness to the country for 23 years ... it’s no joke. What people have seen on field is him giving them happiness, but how would he have felt as an individual under all the pressure and those situations — I would love to see that.”
