Devendra Bishoo's 'ball of 21st century' had my number on it: Brad Haddin

Devendra Bishoo of West Indies celebrates after taking the wicket of Brad Haddin of Australia during day two of the First Test match

Australia’s Brad Haddin talked about the Devendra Bishoo ball which castled him, calling it the ball of the 21st century, but also said that all batsmen need some luck at the beginning of their innings.

In the first Test against the West Indies, Haddin was undone by Devendra Bishoo’s brilliant leg-break when he was on 8 runs. The Bishoo ball pitched on leg-stump and spun sharply to take the top of off-stump – a ball very similar to the ‘ball of the century’ bowled by Shane Warne to Mike Gatting exactly 22 years ago from the day.

"Ball of the century," Haddin said with a grin.

“I probably could have gone forward a bit further or gone back but it was a good ball. It was a good talking point, I think, after the game. It gave me an out for getting out. I think that one had my number on it.

“I think it's anyone at the start of their innings. In this game, you can do as much work on your technique and spend as much time as you can in the nets, but at the start of your innings, everyone needs luck. But credit to him. He knocked me over with a good ball."
