Dhaka Dynamites coast to victory against Comilla Victorians

Dhaka Dynamites eased their way to the target of 111

The second match of the 2015 BPL season was a tame affair compared to the thriller that was the opening match, with Kumar Sangakkara’s Dhaka Dynamites easing their way to a 6-wicket victory over Mashrafe Mortaza’s Comilla Victorians.

There was a stampede before the match outside the Mirpur stadium’s gate because the Dynamites fans had arrived early and were milling outside, but no major injury was reported.

Comilla Victorians, batting first, suffered a devastating collapse in the very beginning of their innings, leaving their tail to do the bulk of the scoring. Kumar Sangakkara, playing in his first match after the Cricket All-Stars extravaganza, took three sharp catches behind the stumps.

Mustafizur Rahman, bowling with zip and accuracy, made the veteran Marlon Samuels struggle during his stay at the crease, and finally bowled him out. Mustafizur, the youngster whose international career has sparked off this year, is training under Dhaka Dynamites coach Wasim Akram during this stint.

Yasir Shah proved unplayable too, bowling 1 maiden and conceding only 14 runs from his 4 overs.

Victorians captain Mashrafe Mortaza, who was playing despite an ankle injury, was the lone star for his team, producing the best batting as well as bowling performances – 25 and 1/23.

The Dynamites, who were set a target of 111, kept scoring at a run rate around 6, to comfortably win the match without too much trouble. The bulk of the runs came through a partnership between Nasir Jamshed (44 off 44 balls) and Kumar Sangakkara (25 off 29 balls).

T20 debutant Abu Hider took two wickets in the 19th over to take the match to a final over, but it was too little too late. Ryan ten Doeschate and Nasir Hossain took the Dynamites home with four balls to spare.
