Swashbuckling Bangladesh southpaw Soumya Sarkar hopes to return to form in the familiar atmosphere of the Dhaka Premier League.

It was Soumya's superb show for title holders Prime Bank in the 2014-15 season which earned him a spot in the Bangladesh cricket team , reports bdnews24.com.

His arrival in Bangladesh's fold had ended their long search for a suitable opening partner for Tamim Iqbal. But an abrupt dip in form has seen the 23-year old shifting place in the Bangladesh batting order lately.

Soumya made his debut in the One-Day series against Zimbabwe on December 1, 2014. He did not have to wait too long for a spot in the Test and Twenty20 International formats.

His fellow team-mates believe the 20-over format suits him best but the left-hander's poor performance lately in the shortest format has put him under pressure.

After doing through a sedate Asia Cup, which was held in T20 format for the first time this year, Soumya was unable to show his true colours in the World T20 in India. He was pushed down to the middle order in the last two matches.

His numbers in T20Is leaves a lot to be desired, with 299 runs in 19 matches at an ordinary average of 15.73. In three Tests, he has scored 107 at an average of 21.40.

But Soumya has shone brightly in the One-Day format. He has scored 692 runs at an average of 49.42 in 16 ODIs. He is keen to return to form in this format.

"I want to play better than the last time in the Premier League. From what I have heard, it appears we will have batting tracks. If that's the case, I will definitely try to put the opportunity to good use," Soumya said on Saturday.

Having played a crucial role in franchise Prime League's triumph last season, Soumya wants to repeat the feat for his new club Legends of Rupganj.

"Winning the first match will help us do well in the following games. A good start will give us an opportunity to become champions. We will play to be champions."

"I am training hard to fix my mistakes - that's what I've worked on these days. The matches begin tomorrow, let's see what happens."
