Indian Cricket Team captain M. S. Dhoni’s elder brother Narendra Singh Dhoni will contest the 2014 Lok Sabha general elections on a Samajwadi Party ticket.

Kashinath Yadav, SP’s Jharkhand affairs-in-charge and ex-MLC in the Uttar Pradeh bicameral, said at a press conference in Dhanbad on Wednesday:

“The SP’s Central Committee has announced Narendra Singh Dhoni’s candidature from the Ranchi Lok Sabha seat.”

The elder Dhoni brother, who had recently joined the Samajwadi Party in Lucknow, said he had taken his family’s consent before joining the party; a similar statement was also issued by him ahead of joining the BJP before the 2009 Assembly elections: “Soon after joining the BJP in 2009, I left because the party did not know how to respect its workers. The SP respects both its leaders and workers.”
