The apex cricketing body in India, BCCI, are set to give the axe to coach Duncan Fletcher after a disastrous away series against New Zealand, where India failed to win a single match.

The 65-year old had big boots to fill when he took over from Gary Kirsten in 2011, following the World Cup victory, but has been far from convincing since. Despite that, in March 2013, the Zimbabwean was handed a one year contract extension, but is now odds on to bite the dust.

According to sources of the Hindustan Times, the BCCI are considering former Zimbabwe wicket keeper and former England coach Andy Flower as a potential replacement, and are already rumored to have held preliminary talks.

The source said, “Nothing has been finalised as these are preliminary talks with the Board likely to invite applications from suitable candidates for the post next month,”

“Routine process would be followed before handing the responsibilities to the new coach. But so far, Flower has been contacted and let’s see who win the race,” he added.

Although many have been calling for captain MS Dhoni‘s sack after a series of bad results in Tests, it seems unlikely, considering the 32-year old’s previous track record.
